Welcome to my Kitchen!
When picking a color scheme for the kitchen, I knew I wanted my base to be white with light gray walls! One of the things I fell in love with when we first looked at this home, is the greenhouse window over the sink that filters in loads of natural light! Our cabinets were already painted white, so we freshened them up with new brushed brass handles & raised them all the way up to the ceiling! This gives us way more counter space height, which is very important to me when it comes to appliances! I wanted both our microwave & toaster oven mounted under the cabinets, instead of sitting on the counter top taking up space! Our counter tops are a light wood finish, similar to that of a butchers block, which we plan to replace in the future with a white granite! Since my kitchen is on the smaller side, these little changes make a HUGE difference!
A POP of Color
I’m dreaming of a white kitchen… with ALL the mint accents! Mint is such a gorgeous color to pop into your airy kitchen! Typically you see orange or yellow color accents used in a kitchen, but that just wasn’t for me! I absolutely love the color mint & decided that all of my “accessories” would match! (You can still find a few hints of pink, because let’s be honest I can’t turn that off!) From pots & pans, to dish mats, cooking utensils & my Keurig everything was MINT to be! (See what I did there?!) As I’ve mentioned, I really thrive best in light and bright spaces; picking a color that is bright, yet still maintains the lightness of the room is key! In creating a kitchen that was attractive and functional for both Tyler and myself, choosing an accent color that we both liked was very important!
Functionality
Noting that my kitchen is on the smaller side with limited counter space, I told myself that I could not go crazy buying a ton of “accessories” that we did not need to have! For instance, I went back and forth over whether or not to purchase the “Sugar, Flour, Tea” pineapple canisters because I was afraid they would take up too much counter space! I had already purchased a baking utensil holder, dish drying mats, a paper towel holder & my Keurig, all in which were going on the counters! Lucky for me, I was able to find a place for everything (including the canisters) without my kitchen bursting at the seams, however I am definitely at maximum counter capacity. I was able to find a flow that worked without making my counters look cluttered, by accounting for functionality of the space before I went crazy in the kitchen section of Home Goods! 🙂
