If you’ve been struggling to grow your Pinterest profile or just aren’t sure where to start, you’ve come to the right place! I’ve learned so much over the last few months about what works and what doesn’t! Grab your notebook and jot these bullet points down; they’re definitely going to be a game changer for you!
First & foremost: Make sure you’ve flipped your profile over to a Business Account. This is going to be important for a few reasons: Pinterest will provide you with statistics to track your engagement via the Business Hub, you will be eligible to access their educational resources for businesses, and your profile will start displaying your “Monthly Viewer” count instead of fixating on follower counts. (more on this later!)
Now its time to get Organized. Pinterest has this really cool feature where you can create subsections within your boards, which helps your viewers find exactly what they’re looking for. For instance, on my board “My Style” I have subsections called Dresses, Sweaters, Shoes, Accessories, etc. Utilize the subsections as much as you can; the simpler it is to locate something, the better. While organizing your boards, feel free to get rid of old content that doesn’t represent you any longer, or condense relative content into one board with subsections.
Pin with a Purpose! Now that we’re organized, its time to start pinning! Before you jump in, I have a few tips to share that will enable you to optimize your engagement!
- Pin/Repin with upcoming seasons & holidays in mind, as they will be trending searches!
- When posting an original Pin, be sure to utilize ALL relative words when filling in the title & description. I use commas in the description to separate them, like this:
- ALWAYS attached your website/LTK.it link/etc to your original pins! Even if they don’t coincide with a blog post, link your home page! Never leave the website link blank.
Now that you’re up & running, lets talk best business practices! It’s all about consistency, so here are a few things I highly recommend you make routine!
- Pick a number you feel is attainable for you (10, 20) & consistently Pin that many times every day
- Pin at least one original Pin per day
- Research what’s trending on Pinterest each week to stay up to date on what people are searching for
- Pick a day & track your stats on that day each week against the week prior to see where you can improve
Here are a few more tips to be sure you get the most out of Pinterest!
- Be sure to enable the Pinterest social widget on your website so readers can easily access your profile & even pin your photos/blog post if they want!
- While 100% authentic to your brand, your feed should also be cohesive/aesthetically pleasing to the eye
- Utilize a link tree if need be to ensure your Pinterest is accessible from your other sites/profiles (i.e. Instagram)
- Share glimpses of your feed on other social channels to attract new Pinners!
One thing to remember is that unlike Instagram, Pinterest is NOT all about the follower gain! Your monthly viewers are most important! By tracking your original pins closely, you can see how many views, repins and link clicks it receives. This will help you decipher the best key words & descriptions to use in the future for optimal engagement! I hope this breakdown of Pinterest business practices has been helpful to you! Please feel free to reach out with any questions; I’m here to help!
Happy Pinning! XO, Kara
